2E or not 2E that is the Question

Width

Shoe width is one of the least spoken about aspects of running shoes. I am one of those creatures who has been cursed with wide feet. For years I wondered why shoes were so tight around my foot. I was constantly bursting out the sides of pairs of Brooks Ghosts that I would send back to Brooks complaining. It was only recently that I discovered the concept of a wide fit or 2E size. This has been a revelation.

Wierd Injuries and Niggles

If you have numb feet or wierd nervey issues with your feet I would strongly recommend trying a wide fit. Not all wide fits are the same. For me I generally don’t need a wide fit for Asics but for Brooks and New Balance it is essesntial.

Length

I am a size 12UK in Asics, a size 12UK in Brooks and a Size 12.5UK in New Balance. The only Nike shoe I wear is the Next% which I need a 13UK as it is too narrow, I have loads of room in the shoe at that size.

Where to buy

Buying the 2E wide fit is not easy, most shoe shops don’t stock them and then when they do they will come in one colour black and white. There is obviously one other man with size 12 wide fit as this size seems to be always gone so I have to stock up.

Shoes That Work

Shoes that I have found that work for me over the years are:

Brooks Ghost 12UK 2E Fit

New Balance 880 12.5 UK 2E Fit

Asics Novablast 12UK D Fit

New Balance Rebel V2 12.5 UK 2E Fit

New Balance RC 1400 12.5UK 2E Fit

Nike Next% 13UK D Fit

Finding these shoes is difficult. Normally you either have to direct to the company and snap them up before they are all gone or go to your local running store and have them ordered.

If I was in America it would be a lot easier as wide feet are more common. They even come in different colours.

Shoes to Avoid

Adidas, Adidas might as well not exist for me, they are made for little elfs with narrow feet.
